Mark Hood has always been keenly interested in Real Estate and, since moving to Traverse City in 2001, he and his wife, Karen, have acquired and sold many vacant land parcels and residential housing properties on Old Mission Peninsula (OMP). They also completely remodeled four homes on OMP and became well-versed in the do’s and don’ts of home construction while doing much of the work themselves. Mark served on the Peninsula Township Board of Review for several years gaining valuable experience and knowledge with the tax assessment and tax appeal processes.
Mark also brings decades of experience in the finance industry to Venture Properties. He has been directly or indirectly involved in over $3 billion of financing of a wide spectrum of assets including aircraft, ships, barges, railcars, oil wells, computers, communications equipment, and many others. In his early years, Mark helped structure and sold over $1 billion in tax-oriented equipment lease transactions to large corporate investors.
He has owned and operated companies in several states, among them leasing companies, an injection molding company and a vacuum formed plastic molding company. He has extensive high-level sales and program sales leadership experience along with extensive contract negotiation skills and strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
Receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Western Michigan University, Mark never imaged he would have a long and fulfilling career in the finance industry. He credits the study of philosophy for helping him better understand other people’s beliefs and actions and to always maintain the highest ethics in all matters, both in business and one’s personal life.
When not working, Mark loves spending time with his family, is an avid walker, reads anything that has to do with business, and is a stamp collector and a Life Member of the American Philatelic Society.
